The DSAGSL hosts and recommends educational workshops throughout the year. These workshops cover a variety of issues and concerns, ranging from early health intervention to information for transitioning to post-education adult life. We also offer a variety of health and wellness programs.

Education Specialist Program
The DSAGSL is proud to highlight our Education Specialist Program! The Down Syndrome Education Specialist Partnership Program is a joint effort between greater St. Louis area schools, agencies, parents and the DSAGSL. The goal of the partnership is to provide support for educators, parents and professionals seeking to build a meaningful education for students with Down syndrome. This FREE four-part workshop begins in September and provides 20 hours of meaningful training as well as continuing education units.
DSAGSL Workshop Series
The DSAGSL is pleased to host workshops for parents, professionals and individuals with Down syndrome throughout the year. Below are the remaining scheduled workshops for 2014.
October 24, 9am-3pm – Education Specialist: Social Opportunities, Inclusion and Technology. As one part of our Ds Education Specialist Program, participants will hear from MO Assistive Technology about devices, software and applications to help your student succeed as well as innovative and exciting ways to create social inclusion in classroom and school communities. FREE EVENT. Hosted at the DSAGSL Office.
November 11, 5-7:30pm – Aging and Down Syndrome: Health Care Guidelines and Research. Parents and health professionals are invited to join the DSAGSL and Wellness Center for Adults with Down Syndrome for a reception from 5-6pm and presentations from local experts. You will learn important information about caring for an adult with Down syndrome from Alzheimer’s disease to routine guidelines. FREE EVENT. Hosted at the Emerson Auditorium at St. Luke’s Hospital.
December 5, 9am-3pm – Education Specialist: Curriculum Modifications for Students with Down Syndrome. Professors in special education will teach and demonstrate unique and appropriate learning strategies for students with Down syndrome as well as tips on modifying curriculum for use in the classroom and at home. FREE EVENT.
January 16, 2015, 9am – 3pm – Education Specialist: Behavior Signs, Strategies and Solutions. As one part of our Ds Education Specialist Program, participants will learn the fundamentals about what different behaviors may mean in a child with Ds as well as strategies that you can use at home or in the classroom to remedy problem behaviors. FREE EVENT. Hosted at the DSAGSL Office.
Our monthly Coffee Talk Speaker Series is a way for parents, caregivers and professionals to meet in an informal setting, learn about topics important to individuals with Down syndrome, ask questions and share strategies. Join us monthly on the Third Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm for Coffee Talk. Our next topic is Starting your own group home! 2013-14 Archived Coffee Talks
Our trained parent, professional and self-advocate ambassadors are ready and willing to come present current information on Down syndrome and Ability Awareness. Our Toastmasters group is a great way to improve public speaking skills, build confidence, make friends and enhance professional skills. Teens and adults of all abilities can join our inclusive, welcoming club. Toastmasters meets the first Tuesday of every month from 4:30 – 6pm at the DSAGSL office. Come and check us out!
