Patti McVay and Laurie Pachl from Down Syndrome Unites - Championing All Disabilities, will be sharing researched best practices to assure the success of all students in general education. They will be sharing specific processes, tools, and ideas for curriculum planning, positive behavior supports, IEPs, visuals and much more. Every participant, parent and educator will leave with ideas they can implement the next day, and feel empowered to take the steps they know are best for their child or student. Kids are first!! This unique team brings a wealth of information, experience and expertise along with some great fun! Registration is $10 and includes lunch.

About the Speakers
Patti McVay is an international speaker, trainer
and author supporting students with Down
Syndrome. Most recently Patti was the Director of
Education for the Linda Crnic Institute and Sie
Center for Down Syndrome at the University of
Colorado. Patti leads child centered team
trainings that support families and schools to
build inclusive school communities for children
with Down syndrome through the use of evidenced based best practices.
Patti has an MS in Education and has advanced certification in Educational Leadership.
Patti was the Director of the Outreach Center for Inclusive Education, a federal grant project that worked with school teams across the United States. She has also served as an elementary and post-secondary principal, and a special education director for school districts in Oregon and California.
In these roles, Patti has provided direction, guidance and support to develop inclusive programs for students and to facilitate systems change in schools and communities. Patti works to build strong collaborative teams that include families, principals, general and special education staff.
Laurie Pachl is a community leader making a difference in the
lives of children and young people throughout the Denver, CO
area. Laurie is the Founder of Savannah’s Race, raising more
than $100,000 in the last 5 years to support families and
agencies that serve children with Down syndrome. Since
2006, Laurie has served as a Victim’s Advocate for the
Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, helping families and
individuals in crisis, all while raising a family and working for
the Aurora Sports & Recreation Department. Laurie has
served on the Children’s Hospital Colorado Parent Advisory Board as well as the Board of Hands & Voices of Colorado. She and her husband have 4 children ranging in age from kindergarten to college.
Laurie’s most recent presentations have included Down Syndrome Organizations in Richmond, Memphis & Roanoke Virginia. She has also spoken for Colorado school districts, National Down Syndrome Congress, PEAK, TASH, Including Me Conference in Houston, Oregon NWDSA and DSA of Minnesota. Laurie has also authored articles and newsletters to encourage other parents and educators to look at new ways to value and see children with Down syndrome. Laurie brings a wealth of experience and information and the invaluable voice of a parent.
